Says her conscience will not allow it anymore to stay silent
Lahore (Pakistan Point News - 19th Apr, 2018) Singer Meesha Shafi has alleged her colleague Ali Zafar for sexual harassment in a tweet on Thursday.
Meesha said that she is sharing this because she believes that by speaking out about her own experience of sexual harassment, she will break the culture of silence that permeates through our society.
Using the #Metoo hashtag, Shafi added that it is not easy to speak out but it is harder to stay silent. “My conscience will not allow it anymore,” she added.
The #Metoo campaign began on Twitter after Hollywood's Harvey Weinstein was accused of sexual harassment. The campaign made its way in Pakistan as well when many people from among the industry shared incidences of sexual harassment on Twitter. The latest development to the campaign is Shafi's tweet alleging rockstar Ali Zafar of sexual harassment.
Ali Zafar has however refused to respond to the allegations.
