Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei says messages from the United States continue to be conveyed through mediators, but stressed that there are currently no direct negotiations between the two countries.
TEHRAN: (UrduPoint /Pakistan Point News-July 27th, 2026) Iran has not requested the resumption of negotiations with the United States and has no direct talks with Washington at present, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said.
Speaking at a press briefing, Baghaei said messages from the United States continue to be conveyed through mediators, but stressed that there are currently no direct negotiations between the two countries.
“Iran has not asked for talks with the United States to resume. That is not in our nature,” he said, adding that Tehran would not allow Washington to dictate the end of the conflict or determine the timing and duration of war and peace.
Commenting on regional developments, Baghaei said discussions between Iran and Oman regarding the management of the Strait of Hormuz had been constructive. He added that the situation in the strategic waterway had not changed and that the strait remained closed.
The spokesperson also alleged that some Gulf countries had been involved in the US campaign against Iran, saying Tehran would continue to defend its sovereignty while pursuing diplomacy in line with its national interests.
Referring to an alleged incident involving a vessel, Baghaei claimed that Ukraine had targeted an Iranian ship, describing the move as dangerous and warning that Iran would respond.
He reiterated that Iran would continue to defend its national interests and would not allow any foreign power to determine its military or diplomatic course.
