Flour prices surge in Peshawar as 20kg bag crosses Rs2,900

The market traders say prices of various flour categories, including fine flour, special flour, mixed flour and red flour, have continued to rise

PESHAWAR: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-July 8th, 2026) The price of a 20-kilogram flour bag has climbed above Rs2,900 in Peshawar following a sharp increase of Rs250 over the past two days, adding to the financial burden on consumers.

The market traders said prices of various flour categories, including fine flour, special flour, mixed flour and red flour, have continued to rise. The cost of both 20kg bags and 80kg sacks has increased across the city.

The surge in flour prices has also affected tandoor businesses, with several bakery owners reportedly reducing the weight of bread to cope with higher input costs.

Representatives of the Nanbai Association attributed the persistent increase in flour prices to restrictions on flour supplies from Punjab, saying reduced availability has disrupted the local market and driven up wholesale and retail prices.

Consumers have expressed concern over the continued rise in food prices and called on the authorities to curb profiteering and ensure the availability of flour at government-approved rates.

The district administration has not yet issued an official response or announced any measures regarding the latest price hike.
