PM cuts power tariff for industries

PM Shehbaz Sharif announced a Rs4.04 per unit reduction in electricity prices for industries, pledging business-friendly policies, export-led growth, and economic reforms.

ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-Jan,30, 2026) Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a reduction of Rs4.04 per unit in electricity prices for industries.

Addressing a ceremony held in honor of leading exporters and business figures in the Federal capital, the prime minister said the government’s role is not to run businesses but to create a conducive environment for them to grow.

He stated that the entire nation has made sacrifices and that the poor have endured hardships, adding that the country must now move toward economic growth. He welcomed suggestions from the business community and said economic policies would be formulated in consultation with traders and industrialists. He also noted that political and military cooperation is opening new avenues for national development.

The prime minister said Pakistan has achieved successes on diplomatic and defense fronts, and after what he termed a “victory in the battle of truth,” the country has secured a distinct position globally. He added that during his recent foreign visits, he observed a change in international attitudes, claiming that the Pakistani passport is now viewed with respect worldwide.

Shehbaz Sharif announced that award-winning businesspersons would be issued blue passports. Reiterating the cut of Rs4.04 per unit in electricity tariffs for industries, he said that after recent national achievements, world leaders have shown greater willingness to engage with Pakistan, and efforts are underway to attract investment.

He said the privatization of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) was carried out transparently and that future privatization processes would also ensure transparency. The government, he added, is introducing reforms and reducing expenditures worth billions of rupees.

The prime minister emphasized that direct taxes should be reduced immediately rather than later, while indirect taxes collected from consumers should be duly deposited with the government.

He said export-led economic growth remains the central focus of government policy, with significant steps also being taken in the digital sector. The government will fully support the revival of PIA, which he said will soon regain its lost status.

Shehbaz Sharif further stated that many issues were resolved with the special support of the field marshal, adding that Pakistan would become so strong that India would be left stunned.
