Federal govt appoints Muhammad Ali Farid Khwaja as SECP commissioner

New commissioner for Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan has been appointed for a three-year term  

ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-Jan 27th, 2026) The Federal government has appointed Muhammad Ali Farid Khwaja as a commissioner of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) for a tenure of three years, according to a notification issued by the Finance Division on Tuesday..

The appointment has been made under Sections 5 and 7 of the SECP Act, 1997, and takes effect immediately.

The notification stated that Khwaja’s salary and other benefits will be fixed in line with the relevant provisions of the same law.

Khwaja is currently serving as the chief executive officer of Critical Metals PLC. He previously held the position of chairman at KTrade for seven years, a role he concluded in October 2025.

An academic background shared on his professional profile shows that Khwaja holds a Master’s degree in Financial Economics from the Saïd business school at the University of Oxford.

He also earned a Master’s degree in Economics from the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), along with undergraduate degrees in Computer Science and Economics.

The appointment follows a selection process in which 27 candidates were interviewed in December last year for three vacant commissioner positions at the SECP.

Earlier this month, the government also named Dr Kabir Ahmed Sidhu as the new chairman of the regulatory body after completing a separate round of interviews.
