Agreements to enhance trade, industrial and economic cooperation between Punjab and Mauritius will be signed soon
LAHORE: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-Dec 19th, 2025) Provincial Minister for Industries and Commerce, Chaudhry Shafay Hussain, met the High Commissioner of Mauritius to Pakistan, Mr. Munsu kurrimbaccus at his office.
During the meeting, matters of mutual interest, bilateral trade, economic cooperation and other issues were discussed. It was agreed to enhance cooperation in the fields of industry, agriculture, tourism, technical education, textiles and other sectors. It was also agreed upon increasing people-to-people contacts, benefiting from each other’s experiences, and exchanging trade delegations.
Agreements to enhance trade, industrial and economic cooperation between Punjab and Mauritius will be signed soon. The Provincial Minister briefed the High Commissioner on investment opportunities in various sectors of Punjab and the special incentives available to foreign investors.
While speaking on the occasion, Provincial Minister for Industries and Commerce Chaudhry Shafay Hussain said that Punjab currently offers the best time and a favorable environment for investment, and investors from Mauritius should benefit from the available opportunities. He stated that a Garment City has been established at Quaid-e-Azam business Park, Sheikhupura, to promote the textile sector, where foreign textile industry and technology are being transferred, and local investors are also setting up textile industries. He added that the Punjab government has taken effective measures to increase cotton production.
The Provincial Minister further said that under the Chief Minister’s Asaan Karobar Finance Scheme, interest-free loans are being provided to promote the SME sector. A job portal has been established to provide skilled manpower to industry, and a follow-up policy is being implemented to achieve desired targets. Focus is being placed on preparing skilled manpower in line with global market and industry needs. Along with supplying skilled manpower to local industry, measures have also been taken to send skilled manpower abroad through legal channels.
Mauritius High Commissioner Mr. Munsu kurrimbaccus said that Mauritius and Pakistan enjoy excellent diplomatic relations, but there is a need to further enhance bilateral economic cooperation. He appreciated the outstanding interest-free loan program for the promotion of SMEs in Punjab and praised Punjab’s handicrafts, stating that Mauritius can benefit from Punjab’s expertise in these areas. He expressed his desire to work jointly with the Punjab government in various sectors.
Later, the Mauritius High Commissioner visited the Handicrafts Shop at PESC House and observed the handicrafts. He expressed keen interest in the handicrafts.
Honorary Consul General of Mauritius Qazi Shahid Sethi, MD PESC Saira Umar, DG Punjab board of Investment Dr. Sohail Ahmed, and other relevant officers were also present at the meeting.
