Veteran actress shares childhood memories with the late writer, recalls his advice on building her own identity in showbiz.
KARACHI: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-Nov,8, 2025) Senior actress Naima Khan recently revealed that renowned writer and playwright Ashfaq Ahmed was her maternal uncle.
Speaking on a private tv show, Naima Khan told host Wasi Shah that Ashfaq Ahmed was her mother’s cousin and that she spent part of her childhood in his care. She recounted how she once asked him for help entering showbiz, but he refused, advising her to make her own mark first rather than relying on family connections.
Naima shared that shortly before his death, Ashfaq Ahmed had wished to host a gathering at his home with buttermilk and mangoes, but she was in England with her children at the time and could not fulfill his wish. She also revealed that he avoided attending weddings to not draw attention to himself, though he had made an exception for her wedding anniversary.
