Prices of 24 rssentials increase

Weekly inflation rises by 0.49% amid continued price hikes.

KARACHI: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-Oct,17, 2025) Inflation continued its upward trend across Pakistan as prices of 24 essential commodities increased during the past week, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

The weekly inflation rate rose by 0.49%, marking the third consecutive weekly increase, while annual inflation climbed to 4.57%.

Items showing notable price hikes included potatoes (0.71%), eggs (2.81%), flour (1.42%), onions (8.70%), garlic (0.85%), vegetable ghee (0.63%), tomatoes (33.20%), and washing soap (0.08%).

Conversely, prices of eight items fell during the week, including chicken (6.38%), moong dal (0.49%), bananas (4.70%), chana dal (2.20%), broken basmati rice (0.51%), petrol (2.09%), and high-speed diesel (0.55%).

The report further indicated that inflation rates varied among income groups, with the lowest-income households (earning up to Rs17,732 per month) experiencing a 1.07% weekly rise, while inflation for higher-income groups (earning above Rs44,176) saw a 0.29% decline, standing at 3.61%.
