Market features uniquely named and prized animals such as Atom Bomb, Rocket Launcher, Kalashnikov F-16 and G-3
BADIN: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-July 7th, 2025) The annual traditional donkey market has kicked off in Tando Ghulam Ali, Badin, drawing rare and high-value donkeys from across Pakistan.
The centuries-old fair attracted sellers and buyers from all provinces including Sindh, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Donkeys and mules brought to the market are valued between PKR 20,000 and PKR 500,000.
The market featured uniquely named and prized animals such as Atom Bomb, Rocket Launcher, Kalashnikov, F-16, and G-3 which reflected their strength, speed and stature.
Alongside them are attractively presented donkeys named Madhuri, Reshma, Kashmala, Sharmila, Sherry, Nazo and Ruby, dressed in vibrant ornaments — with males decorated like grooms and females like brides.
This donkey market, which predates the creation of Pakistan, was traditionally held on the 10th of Muharram but has, in recent years, shifted to the 11th.
Due to the large turnout, the event has evolved into one of Asia’s most prominent annual donkey fairs.
Historically significant, the Tando Ghulam Ali donkey market also played a key role during the Soviet-Afghan war. Donkeys and mules purchased here were used for transport and supply operations across difficult terrains.
