Electricity price cut of Rs7.41 per unit remains effective, ministry clarifies

Ministry urges all provincial governments and relevant federal ministries to implement energy-efficient building codes

ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-May 31st, 2025) The Federal Ministry of Energy on Saturday confirmed that the special relief of Rs7.41 per unit reduction in electricity tariff, announced by the Prime Minister of Pakistan, remains in effect.

An official statement issued by the Power Division of the Ministry of Energy said that the country is currently experiencing historically low hydropower production during these months. This has led to increased dependence on expensive power plants running on alternative fuels, causing a rise in fuel costs for electricity generation.

In response to this trend, the Ministry urged all provincial governments and relevant federal ministries to implement energy-efficient building codes. This step aims to help consumers reduce their electricity bills during the extreme heat of summer and severe cold in winter.

Furthermore, the government is preparing to introduce energy-efficient fans that consume up to 70% less electricity. These fans will be made available to the public through interest-free easy installment plans, encouraging the replacement of old fans and contributing to substantial reductions in electricity consumption and bills.
