Museums Commission Launches 'Museum on the Road' Initiative to Strengthen Collaboration Between Museums and Schools

Riyadh, July (پاکستان پوائنٹ نیوز ‎‎‎ 23 يوليو 2026ء) The initiative is part of the Commission's vision to strengthen the role of museums as educational institutions that foster knowledge and support schools and teachers in delivering more engaging, real-world learning experiences. It does so by using museum collections and educational storytelling to complement school curricula, helping students better understand and retain key concepts.

The initiative features a fully equipped mobile museum housed in a truck that travels to public, private, and international schools across Riyadh, offering an interactive learning experience that combines exploration with hands-on education.

The educational content has been carefully designed to align with learning outcomes across a range of school subjects, including history, art, science, mathematics, and natural sciences, ensuring a strong connection with classroom learning.

The program was developed in coordination with the National Curriculum Center to ensure that its content is tailored to each educational stage, from Primary through intermediate to secondary school.

The experience is built around active engagement, not observation. Rather than displayed behind glass, the objects are made to be handled, questioned and pieced together; students touch and respond to what they encounter, activating every sense as they explore.

After a guided visit inside the truck, students take part in a hands-on workshop in which they work in small teams to design their own miniature exhibition, building skills in teamwork, creative thinking and communication alongside cultural knowledge.

All materials are offered in both Arabic and English, ensuring the experience is accessible to students across Riyadh’s public, private and international schools.

Alongside the student-facing program, the initiative includes a dedicated resource for educators, a practical guide developed to help teachers integrate the museum experience into their teaching and facilitate meaningful discussion in the classroom.

Chief Executive Officer of the Museums Commission Eng. Abdullah Al-Hammad said: “Museum on the Road” is a new step in expanding museums’ reach into the community, and bringing the museum experience directly to students in their educational environments. We believe museums are educational institutions that help spread knowledge, spark curiosity and inspire generations to learn and explore. Through this initiative, we are developing innovative models that bring museums closer to students and strengthen their role as a partner in supporting education, helping build a generation more aware of, and passionate about, knowledge.”

Dr. Taghreed Alsaraj, who is leading “Museum on the Road”, added: It was launched from a vision that believes museums are not just destinations to visit, but educational institutions capable of supporting and enriching the learning journey. Learning takes hold when the student moves from reading information to seeing it, engaging with it and connecting it to what they learn inside the classroom, making concepts clearer and deeper, and turning knowledge into a lived experience with lasting impact.”

The initiative reflects the Museums Commission's commitment to developing innovative educational models that integrate museums into the learning journey and foster sustainable collaboration between museums and schools, reinforcing their role as educational institutions that promote knowledge and help develop the skills of future generations.

It also aims to inspire students to continue exploring museums beyond the classroom and encourage family visits, strengthening community engagement with museums and extending the educational experience to families and the wider community.

The Museums Commission thanks the Cultural House under the libraries Commission for its generous support in providing the launch location.
