Tunis, August (پاکستان پوائنٹ نیوز 26 أغسطس 2025ء) Known as Tunisia's agricultural capital of figs, Djebba benefits from fertile soil and a suitable climate, allowing it to produce high-quality varieties popular in both local and international markets.
Beyond fresh figs, the city is renowned for "Shariha," a traditional dried fig that serves as a food staple. The fruit's local name, "Karmous," traces its roots to ancient Latin, underscoring the product's deep cultural heritage.
Figs are a growing economic resource for Tunisia. The country annually exports about 7,000 tons of fresh and dried figs, generating over 20 million Tunisian Dinars (about $6 million). The development of products like jams is expected to further boost the industry's global presence.
