King Fahad Public Library: Architectural Landmark, Modern Beacon of Knowledge for All

Jeddah, August (پاکستان پوائنٹ نیوز ‎‎‎ 26 أغسطس 2025ء) The library provides services to all segments of society within Makkah Region, including researchers, intellectuals, students, as well as Hajj pilgrims and Umrah performers. As a comprehensive knowledge center, it allows access to a wide range of disciplines and sciences. The building is composed of three main sections, housing diverse collections of books, references, and periodicals that cover various fields and cater to readers of all ages and interests.

King Fahad Public Library is also renowned for being the first in the Kingdom to dedicate separate sections for youth, children, women, and individuals with visual impairments, all under one roof. Each section contains carefully curated books and programs tailored to the needs of these groups, alongside innovative and contemporary activities and events. The library has also added a new section for Waqf, bringing together a rich collection of books related to religious endowments, from both Sharia and administrative perspectives, as well as local and international experiences in the field.

The children’s section receives special attention through training programs and interactive activities, as well as specialized programs for women and youth, some introduced for the first time at a national level. By fulfilling its mission to foster knowledge and provide information services and cultural activities according to modern standards, the library contributes to the goals of Saudi Vision 2030. Users also benefit from electronic catalogues and access to global databases, reinforcing the library’s status as a leading cultural hub.

Since its inception, the library has received significant support from the King Abdulaziz University Endowment (WAQF), which initially proposed the establishment idea during the reign of King Fahad. WAQF provided modern architectural designs, allocated the land, and supplied the specialized expertise required to manage and operate the library.

The library includes multiple halls for hosting scientific and training programs and meetings and private study retreats. It is also equipped with computer terminals linked to up-to-date databases and houses specialized libraries, including for the visually impaired, that enable people with visual disabilities to fully benefit from the library’s resources.
