Riyadh, August (پاکستان پوائنٹ نیوز 25 أغسطس 2025ء) The initiative aims to establish an integrated system to combat desertification and sand encroachment. It includes a plan to monitor and identify desertification indicators across the Kingdom and a survey to locate areas at risk of sand encroachment using remote sensing and geographic information systems (GIS) technologies.
Additionally, it seeks to develop scientific solutions to limit desertification and improve the properties of vulnerable areas, leveraging successful regional and international practices. Various sectors will collaborate, alongside studies on invasive plant species and their management.
Surveys of locations at risk of sand encroachment have been completed, identifying wind corridors. Research on land degradation and invasive plant management has been conducted. An evaluation of the Kingdom's drought vulnerability has led to measures for mitigation. An executive plan for integrated management addressing desertification, sand encroachment, and drought has been developed.
