Russian Service for Tracking Deforestation to Be Launched in 2019 - Russian Space Systems
A Russian service that can automatically spot deforestation and waste dumps from space will start operating in mid-2019, Deputy Director General of Russian Space Systems Evgeny Nesterov said on Tuesday at the Army-2018 defense industry forum, currently being held in the Moscow Region.
KUBINKA (Moscow Region) (Pakistan Point news / Sputnik - 21st August, 2018) A Russian service that can automatically spot deforestation and waste dumps from space will start operating in mid-2019, Deputy Director General of Russian Space Systems Evgeny Nesterov said on Tuesday at the Army-2018 defense industry forum, currently being held in the Moscow Region.
"The first service should be launched in mid-2019.
It will be a decryption of windthrown trees, deforestation, quarries, and in the future ... we will be working with roads, waste dumps," Nesterov told reporters.
The satellite-based system will monitor the Earth's surface, while a center on the territory of the Russian Space Systems company will process satellite data.
The Army-2018 forum kicked off earlier on Tuesday at the Patriot congress and exhibition center in the town of Kubinka, the Moscow Region, and will last until Sunday, August 26.
