CEO of Russia's Largest Bank Says May Leave If Sberbank Development Strategy Changes

Herman Gref, the CEO of Russia's largest bank, on Thursday expressed hope that Sberbank's development strategy would remain unchanged under a new main shareholder, otherwise he may not be able to stay

DAVOS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 23rd January, 2020) Herman Gref, the CEO of Russia's largest bank, on Thursday expressed hope that Sberbank's development strategy would remain unchanged under a new main shareholder, otherwise he may not be able to stay.

The Russian authorities are considering a transfer of the controlling interest in the bank to the state because of the conflict of interest the Central Bank is currently acting as both a regulator and a shareholder.

When asked if Sberbank development strategy would change should the government buy the controlling interest from the Central Bank, Gref said he hoped there would be no change.

"I hope, it will not [change]. We are deeply convinced that our strategy is correct, it has been proven by facts. When I took this job, I came with a certain vision. If the vision changes, I do not see where I would fit in at the company," Gref told reporters on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos.

First Deputy Governor of the Bank of Russia Sergey Shvetsov said earlier this week that the talks were still ongoing and there were no agreements yet.
