Top Israeli Diplomat Says Netanyahu-Putin Relationship Foundation of Bilateral Ties

The "special" level of mutual understanding between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Russian President Vladimir Putin has become the cornerstone in their countries' relationship, Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz told Sputnik

TEL AVIV (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 23rd January, 2020) The "special" level of mutual understanding between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Russian President Vladimir Putin has become the cornerstone in their countries' relationship, Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz told Sputnik.

"I positively assess the development of relations between Israel and Russia. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's frequent visits to Moscow attest to the special level of mutual understanding between our leaders and, as a result, mutual understanding between our countries and peoples," Katz said.

The interview comes as Jerusalem is hosting the 5th World Holocaust Forum, which is timed to the 75th anniversary of the Red Army's liberation of the Auschwitz death camp. President Putin, French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian President Sergio Mattarella, US Vice President Michael Pence, President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier are among the forum's participants.

"Israel appreciates the important role that the Red Army played in the victory over Nazi Germany and the liberation of the prisoners of [the Auschwitz extermination camp in] Oswiecim, as well as other death camps. We also appreciate the participation of President Vladimir Putin in events dedicated to this date," the Israeli minister said.

Katz further recalled the horrors faced during the siege of Leningrad, saying that the two leaders would open a monument in Jerusalem dedicated to the victims of the blockade.
