Russia and India are considering building nuclear power plants jointly in Africa and Middle East, Indian Ambassador to Russia Bala Venkatesh Varma told Sputnik

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 22nd January, 2020) Russia and India are considering building nuclear power plants jointly in Africa and middle East, Indian Ambassador to Russia Bala Venkatesh Varma told Sputnik.

"There are also good prospects for cooperation in third countries. We already have cooperation with respect to Bangladesh Rouppur nuclear power plant. But now that Russia is also pretty active in creating nuclear power plants in the Middle East and Africa, that also offers us a new pathway of cooperation," the diplomat said.

The ambassador replied in the affirmative, when asked if Russia and India might launch similar projects in Africa.

"Russia is already signing with some countries in Africa. Ethiopia is one of them. There are some countries in the Middle East. So, it will be a Russian project but with Indian cooperation. The discussions are still at a preliminary stage. But we are hopeful that this will be a new area of cooperation," Varma said.
