MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 20th September, 2019) The Russian Northern Fleet Air Defence regiment, stationed on the Novaya Zemlya Archipelago in the Arctic, has started its guard duty with the S-400 missile systems, the regiment said on Friday.

"The Northern Fleet Air Defence regiment, which is deployed on Novaya Zemlya [Russia's archipelago in the Arctic Ocean], has been equipped with new S-400 missile systems and has been put on guard duty," the statement read.

The regiment has been stationed on the Novaya Zemlya archipelago since 2015 and was previously equipped with the S-300 missile systems to protect the airspace over the Russian Arctic.

The S-400 systems, which entered service in 2007, replaced the Russian army's S-300 and S-200 systems and were designed to engage all types of targets, including drones and cruise missiles.
