WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 19th September, 2019) The United States is hopeful that a peaceful solution may be reached with Iran after a recent attack on Saudi Arabia's oil facilities, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told reporters on Thursday.
"We'd like a peaceful resolution, indeed," Pompeo said when asked if there is an opportunity for a peaceful resolution to this situation. "I think we've demonstrated that."
Pompeo added, however, that the United States will apply additional sanctions against Iran soon.
On Saturday, a drone attack on Saudi Arabia's Abqaiq and Khurais oil facilities forced the country's Aramco oil company to shut them down. The move resulted in a more than twofold drop in Saudi Arabia's net oil output.
Although Yemen's Ansar Allah movement, also known as the Houthi, claimed responsibility for the attack, the United States and Saudi Arabia have blamed Iran.
