Syria's Kurdish Autonomy Says Hosting About 700 Children From IS Families

About 600-700 children, whose parents were members of the Islamic State terrorist group (IS, banned in Russia), are currently in the hands of the Kurdish administration in northeastern Syria, Abdulkarim Omar, the co-chairman of the international affairs committee of the Kurdish autonomy in Syria, told Sputnik on Wednesday

CAIRO (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 10th June, 2019) About 600-700 children, whose parents were members of the Islamic State terrorist group (IS, banned in Russia), are currently in the hands of the Kurdish administration in northeastern Syria, Abdulkarim Omar, the co-chairman of the international affairs committee of the Kurdish autonomy in Syria, told Sputnik on Wednesday.

"There are a lot of orphans of IS militants. Now there are about 600-700 children from more than 50 countries," Omar said.

He noted that the Kurdish authorities transferred children to other countries only in "humanitarian cases."

Omar also confirmed that on Monday, the Kurdish administration of the territories in northeastern Syria had handed over 12 orphans of French origin to France, and two Dutch children to the Netherlands.

"We have not extradited IS militants or even women who committed crimes together with terrorists," he noted.

According to the official, the Kurdish administration "has the right to judge all terrorists" within the framework of the international tribunal that it has formed.

Between May and June, Syrian Kurds handed over relatives of IS militants to the United States, Norway, Uzbekistan and others.

Damascus does not recognize the Kurdish self-governing autonomy in the country's northeast.
