During his speech, Nechirvan Barzani thanked former president of the region Masoud Barzani for his work as the head of Iraqi Kurdistan, according to Rudaw Media Network.

He also called on Baghdad and Erbil to improve relations with neighboring countries in the region.

Nechirvan is the second president of the region since his uncle Masoud Barzani was first elected in 2005. His cousin, Masrour Barzani, is expected to form a new government after Nechirvan stands down as prime minister.
