At Least 7 Police Officers Killed In Taliban Attack In Western Afghanistan - Statement

KABUL (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 09th June, 2019) At least seven police officers were killed and five more were wounded when the Taliban militants attacked police outposts in the city of Farah in western Afghanistan on Saturday night, a provincial police spokesman, Muhebullah Muheb, said in a statement, obtained by Sputnik.

"The Taliban attacked police outposts in Haidar Keli area in Farah city, killing seven policemen and wounding five others," Muheb was quoted as saying in the statement.

He added that two Taliban members were killed and another three were wounded in a retaliatory attack.

The Taliban movement has confirmed the attack on police outposts, claiming they have killed six policemen.

Afghanistan has long been suffering from an unstable security situation. The government has been fighting the Taliban movement, which has been waging a war against Kabul for almost two decades, and the Islamic State terrorist group (banned in Russia), which has been operating in Afghanistan since 2015.
