NEW YORK (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 07th June, 2019) US police have arrested a man who was allegedly planning to detonate grenades in New York City's Times Square, local media outlets reported on Friday.
Federal and local police arrested the man before he carried out the attack, and the suspect no longer poses any threat, ABC news reported, citing law enforcement sources.
The suspect is expected to appear in federal court in Downtown Brooklyn later on Friday, the report said.
The man reportedly took surveillance video of Times Square and allegedly tried to purchase weapons, including grenades and guns without serial numbers.
Police arranged an undercover operation to apprehend the suspect when he tried to buy the explosives, CNN reported, adding that he was taken into the custody of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and New York Police Department Joint Task Force.
The man's name and possible motive have not yet been made public.
