St. Petersburg Strikes Over 1.5Bln Worth Of Investment Deals On SPIEF First Day

ST. PETERSBURG (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 07th June, 2019) The first day of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum marked over 100 billion rubles ($1.5 billion) worth of agreements for the city of St. Petersburg, the governor's press office said in a statement on Thursday.

According to the statement, Russian Railways OJSC intends to invest 88 billion rubles ($1.3 billion) in the development of the St. Petersburg railway junction. This amount will cover the construction of new branches, renewal of rolling stock and modernization of infrastructure.

Over 10 billion rubles ($153 million) will be invested by the EKS Group of Companies toward building a perinatal center in the Kalininsky district as a public-private partnership project. Another 2 billion rubles ($30.6 million) will be invested by International food Market, Ltd. in constructing an agricultural wholesale distribution center in the Shushary village.�

Additionally, the government of St. Petersburg signed a multilateral agreement with Gazprom and number of leading local universities to create a research-scientific center focused on artificial intelligence in industry, as well as an agreement with the governor of the Kaliningrad Region, Anton Alikhanov, which provides for cooperation in sea tourism through establishment of a Russian cruise company and ferry line that will connect the major Baltic cities.

Russian Economic Development Minister Maksim Oreshkin, also present at the forum, endorsed the establishment of special economic zones in St. Petersburg and the port of Kronstadt.

The three-day SPIEF began earlier on Thursday. Rossiya Segodnya International Information Agency is an official media partner of the forum.
