KIEV (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 05th June, 2019) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy revealed on Wednesday plans to meet with representatives of the country's largest corporations later in June to urge them to invest in the development of the country's eastern Donbas region.
"We are going to meet with [Ukraine's] big business in June. We will talk about the development of the Donbas region. We have a plan: we want to invite these companies to invest in Donbas, in Donbas' infrastructure," Zelenskyy told the Ukrainian 1+1 broadcaster.
Back in 2014, Ukrainian authorities launched a military operation against the region, which refused to recognize the new government at the time. With much in Donbas having been destroyed in the years since, it is now in dire need of new infrastructure.�
In 2015, the warring parties � Kiev and representatives of the self-proclaimed people's republics of Donetsk� and Luhansk � signed the Minsk peace accords to end the hostilities in the region. However, the situation has remained tense, with both sides accusing each other of ceasefire violations.
