US to Wait for Results of Tanker Attack Probes Before Discussing Proper Response - Envoy

The United States will wait until the investigations into the recent tanker attacks off the coast of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have been concluded before discussing an appropriate response, US Special Envoy for Iran Brian Hook said on Thursday

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 30th May, 2019) The United States will wait until the investigations into the recent tanker attacks off the coast of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have been concluded before discussing an appropriate response, US Special Envoy for Iran Brian Hook said on Thursday.

"We will want to be nations that were attacked, announce the results of their own investigations," Hook told reporters. "I think we're getting near the end of that from what I have heard. The UAE, Saudi [Arabia] and Norway will be announcing the results of the investigation into their attack. ... Once we have a fuller picture of the facts, will be in a position to discuss the proper response, but that's something that we will be doing in concert with Norway, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates."

On May 12, four oil tankers, including two Saudi vessels and a UAE-flagged ship, were targeted by a mysterious attack off the UAE's exclusive economic zone. Even though no one has claimed responsibility for the sabotage, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo claimed on May 21 that Iran could quite possibly be responsible for the attack.

The attack comes as tensions between the United States and Iran have escalated after Washington boosted its military presence in the Persian Gulf region earlier in May, deploying to the region a bomber task force, Patriot missiles and an aircraft carrier strike group.
