Serbian President, Russian Ambassador Discuss Kosovo Escalation

BELGRADE (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 30th May, 2019) Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic met behind closed doors with Russian Ambassador to Serbia Alexander Chepurin on Thursday to discuss the recent escalation of the situation in Kosovo, the Vucic administration reported.

On Tuesday, two UN Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) staff members, including Russian national Mikhail Krasnoshchekov, were detained, injured and hospitalized in a raid by police of the self-proclaimed Republic of Kosovo. The police said it undertook an operation against organized crime in Serb-populated areas in northern Kosovo and detained 18 people.

"President Vucic said that the previous two days were very difficult for Serbs both in [the Autonomous Province of] Kosovo and Metohija, and Serbia, and that all the actions by Pristina indicate that the situation in future will not be any easier," the administration said.

According to the report, the Russian ambassador, in response, stressed that Russia strongly condemns the Kosovo provocation, which reflects the rudeness and arrogance of the Pristina authorities, and demands an investigation into the incident.
