No meeting scheduled between PM Imran, Modi at OIC: Qureshi

He however said that Imran Khan has never refused to meet Modi.

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 30th May, 2019) Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said that no meeting has been scheduled between Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the 14th Summit of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

He however said that Imran Khan has never refused to meet Modi.

Speaking to media in Jeddah, the foreign minister said that it will be a nice beginning if a meeting with Modi is held at the sideline of any forum.

He said that India did not prefer a dialogue due to elections but now that election is over, the new government will have a new attitude.

Prime Minister Imran Khan will attend the 14th Summit of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Saudi Arabia's city of Makkah on May 31.

Pakistani officials will not attend the swearing-in ceremony of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 30 after he did not invite PM Imran for the ceremony.

The Indian general election took place over two months starting in April, and its results were announced on May 23. The National Democratic Alliance, led by Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party, won.

Imran Khan had congratulated Modi on his win shortly after the results were released, saying that he looked forward "to working with him for peace, progress and prosperity" in South Asia.

India and Pakistan, two nuclear-armed rivals, have never been close allies throughout their history. Tensions in the Kashmir region, an area that is disputed by both countries, escalated in Februarycwhen the Indian Air Force carried out an airstrike against what it claimed to be a camp belonging to the Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist group, located on the Pakistani side of Kashmir, in retaliation for an attack on an Indian paramilitary convoy earlier that month.
