MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 28th May, 2019) Indonesian National Police chief Tito Karnavian said on Tuesday that several suspects were placed in custody for allegedly plotting to kill four senior government officials following violent protests in the country.

Chief Security Minister Wiranto, who uses a single name, Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Panjaitan, intelligence chief Budi Gunawan and presidential security adviser Gories Mere were targeted, according to the Tempo weekly.

The assassinations were plotted as part of massive riots in the national capital of Jakarta in the wake of last week's presidential election, which saw Joko Widodo win a second term with over a half of votes.

The unrest has claimed the lives of six people. Some 300 others received gunshot and knife wounds. The Jakarta police are investigating. Police reject accusations of using excessive force, saying that officers were not armed.
