Chairman of the South Korean parliament Moon Hee-sang called on Russia on Tuesday during his meeting with Chairman of the Russian lower house Vyacheslav Volodin to continue supporting peace efforts in the region until the Korean Peninsula arrives at complete denuclearization

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 28th May, 2019) Chairman of the South Korean parliament Moon Hee-sang called on Russia on Tuesday during his meeting with Chairman of the Russian lower house Vyacheslav Volodin to continue supporting peace efforts in the region until the Korean Peninsula arrives at complete denuclearization.

"I kindly request the Russian side [to make sure] that Russia supports the peace process on the Korean Peninsula, the consolidation of peace and stability on this land, as it did before, until we reach complete denuclearization," Moon said during the meeting.

The South Korean parliamentarian also noted that he wanted Russia to spearhead the settlement of the nuclear issue, because Moscow was one of the main parties concerned.

"Russia also has power of influence over North Korea," Moon added.

In late April, the Russian and North Korean leaders, Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un, held their first ever meeting in the Russian Far Eastern city of Vladivostok.

During their talks, the two leaders addressed potential joint projects and the possibility of resuming six-party talks on the North Korea crisis, among other issues.
