Indonesia Needs To Keep 5.5% Yearly Growth To Become 5th Largest Economy By 2045- Minister

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 24th May, 2019) Indonesia needs to maintain its economic growth of 5.5 percent annually on track to becoming the world's fifth largest economy, Indonesian Minister of National Development Planning Bambang Brodjonegoro said at a business forum on Thursday.

"We need to grow by around 5.5 percent every year from today, 2019 to 2045. And you know that well, from your own experience in Russia or other countries' experience, [such as] France, Canada or Germany. It is hard to have stable growth of 5 percent for a quite long period of time," the minister said at a panel discussion during the Stolypin Forum in Moscow.

If successful, Indonesia, currently standing in the 16th line with a nominal gross domestic product (GDP) of $1.01 trillion, will replace the United Kingdom (GDP $2.62 trillion).

On Wednesday, the two-day Stolypin Forum "Strategies for Russia" kicked off at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations. A platform for inclusive international dialogue on business and economic development, the forum brought together over 5,000 participants from Russia and abroad. The speakers include heads and ex-heads of government bodies, experts, business leaders and media from Russia, China, France, Israel, Indonesia, China, and other states.
