MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 23rd May, 2019) Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan on Thursday congratulated his Indian counterpart, Narendra Modi, on the victory of his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Indian parliamentary elections.
"I congratulate Prime Minister Modi on the electoral victory of BJP and allies. Look forward to working with him for peace, progress and prosperity in South Asia," Khan said on Twitter.
The Indian Election Commission said earlier on in the day, citing preliminary results of the vote, that India's ruling National Democratic Alliance, led by BJP, has surpassed the 272-mandate threshold needed for winning the country's general elections. According to media reports, the alliance received almost 340 of the parliament's 542 seats.
