Popocatepetl Volcano Located Near Mexico City Sends Ash Plume 2.2Mi Into Sky - Authorities

MEXICO CITY (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 23rd May, 2019) The Popocatepetl volcano, located in central Mexico near Mexico City, belched a column of ash up to 3.5 kilometers (2.2 miles) above sea level into the sky, the country's civil defense service has said.

The volcano threw the column of ash late on Wednesday, after which it continued spewing gases to the altitude of 800 meters (2,624.5 feet). The authorities warned local residents against approaching the volcano.

Popocatepetl is located 70 kilometers from Mexico City and is one of the country's largest volcanos.

Its activities have increased following the recent environmental emergency which the capital saw due to high air pollution levels in the area.
