MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 22nd May, 2019) The United Kingdom will "respond appropriately" if the alleged use of chemical weapons in Syria is confirmed, UK Prime Minister Theresa May said Wednesday.
The US Department of State said earlier this week that the United States was gathering information on alleged chemical weapons attacks in Syria.
"We condemn all use of chemical weapons, we are in close contact with the United States, we are monitoring the situation closely. And if any use of chemical weapons is confirmed we'll respond appropriately," May told the parliament.
At the same time, the Russian Defense Ministry said last week that militants of the Nusra Front terrorist group (banned in Russia) were preparing to stage a false-flag provocation in Syria's Idlib province to frame the Russian Aerospace Forces and the Syrian armed forces for allegedly attacking civilians with chemical weapons.
Last year, the United States, the United Kingdom and France used the claims of chemical attacks in Syria to justify airstrikes on Syria, without waiting for the results of an independent investigation. The Syrian government denies any role in the attacks.
