Russia Hopes Kiev Will Not Justify Undermining Peace Process With Rada Dissolution - Envoy

Russia hopes that Kiev will not use the dissolution of the Ukrainian parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, and subsequent preparations for new parliamentary elections as a justification for undermining the Minsk peace process, Boris Gryzlov, the Russian envoy to the Contact Group on Ukraine, said on Tuesday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 21st May, 2019) Russia hopes that Kiev will not use the dissolution of the Ukrainian parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, and subsequent preparations for new parliamentary elections as a justification for undermining the Minsk peace process, Boris Gryzlov, the Russian envoy to the Contact Group on Ukraine, said on Tuesday.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy announced on Monday, after his inauguration, that he would dissolve the country's parliament, stressing that lawmakers would have two months to make a range of important decisions.

"We cannot judge the new Kiev government by its words, but it is still early to judge it by its acts. I would like to hope that the dissolution of the Verkhovna Rada and preparations for new elections will not be used by Kiev as a pretext to undermine the Minsk process," Gryzlov told reporters at talks of the Contact Group.

"If the new Kiev government, unlike the previous one, really wants to implement its commitments within the Minsk agreements, we can only welcome this. But we do not see any real change yet," he added.
