ATHENS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 20th May, 2019) Former Cypriot President Dimitris Christofias is in critical condition with respiratory system problems, the country's Health Ministry said on Monday in a statement.Christofias was hospitalized in Nicosia on Saturday and transferred to an intensive care unit earlier on Monday.
"His health condition is assessed as critical," the statement said.
The health minister maintains permanent contact with doctors and will announce any changes in Christofias' condition.
Christofias, 72, headed Cyprus in 2008-2013 and before that had chaired the Cypriot parliament for seven years. He was also a long-time head of the left-wing Progressive Party of Working People.
Christofias was also calling for developing friendly relations with Russia and even received the Russian Order of Friendship in 2010.
