Bahraini Foreign Ministry Warns Citizens Against Traveling to Iraq, Iran Amid Tensions

The Foreign Ministry of Bahrain warned on Saturday the country's citizens against traveling to Iraq and Iran in connection with the unstable situation in the region

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 18th May, 2019) The Foreign Ministry of Bahrain warned on Saturday the country's citizens against traveling to Iraq and Iran in connection with the unstable situation in the region.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain warns all citizens against traveling to the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Iraq at the present time, given the unstable situation in the region and the recent escalations and threats against security and stability," the ministry said in a statement.

It also called upon all citizens who were in Iran and Iraq to leave the country's immediately for their safety and security.

Earlier this week, media reported that the United States had deployed at least seven warships led by the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln as well as a Patriot missile battery to the Persian Gulf and nearby region.

On Thursday, US President Donald Trump told reporters that he hoped to avoid a war with Iran. At the same time, Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said that Iran did not intend to wage war with the United States, but would continue to resist Washington. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo also spoke about the undesirability of the war with Iran, while noting that if US national interests were in danger, Washington would respond "accordingly."
