US-Lebanese Military Talks In Washington Focus On Syria, Counterterrorism - Pentagon

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 18th May, 2019) US and Lebanese government and military officials met in Washington this week to discuss a range of security matters in the middle East such as the Syrian conflict and counterterrorism efforts, the Department of Defense said in a press release.

"Senior delegations from the United States and Lebanon met May 16-17 in Washington, DC for the fourth meeting of the US-Lebanon Joint Military Commission (JMC)," the release said on Friday. "The delegations discussed a broad range of diplomatic and security challenges throughout the region, including the crisis in Syria and ways to continue combating violent extremism."

The US delegation was led by Acting Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs Kathryn Wheelbarger and the Lebanese delegation was led by Chief of Defense Gen. Jospeh Aoun, the release said.

Wheelbarger said in the release that the discussions were productive.

The US-Lebanon Joint Military Commission meeting serves as a platform for both countries to discuss security assistance and military cooperation, the release said.
