Houthis Say 6 People Killed in Saudi-Led Coalition Airstrike on Sanaa - Reports

The Saudi-led coalition has bombed a residential area in Yemen's capital city of Sanaa, killing six people and injuring dozens of others, the Almasirah broadcaster, controlled by Ansar Allah movement, known as the Houthis, reported on Thursday

DOHA (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 16th May, 2019) The Saudi-led coalition has bombed a residential area in Yemen's capital city of Sanaa, killing six people and injuring dozens of others, the Almasirah broadcaster, controlled by Ansar Allah movement, known as the Houthis, reported on Thursday.

On Tuesday, the Houthi movement claimed responsibility for drone attacks on Saudi Arabia's oil facilities calling it the largest military operation conducted by the rebels since the start of the armed conflict in Yemen in 2015. The attack caused a fire and minor damage to one of the pumps of Saudi Aramco's cross-country pipeline. The company said it had halted crude oil traffic via the pipeline as a precautionary measure.

On Wednesday, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Anwar Gargash warned the Houthis of retaliation to the rebels' drone attacks.

According to the broadcaster, the coalition's warplanes hit the residential area at the intersection of Rabat and Rakas streets in Sanaa. Rescue teams continue to extract the victims from the rubble.

The Saudi-led coalition, on its part, issued a statement informing Yemen about the start of an operation against the military targets of the Houthis in Sanaa. The coalition called on civilians to avoid places where Houthis' facilities are located.

Yemen has been engulfed in an armed conflict between the government forces, led by President Abdrabuh Mansour Hadi, and the rebel Houthi movement for years. The Saudi-led coalition has been carrying out airstrikes against the Houthis at Hadi's request since March 2015. The conflict has resulted in a massive humanitarian crisis in the war-torn country.
