Modi says his Lahore visit was a message of peace

Says Lahore visit convinced people that India wants cordial ties with Pakistan.

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 13th May, 2019) Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that his December 2015 visit to Lahore, Pakistan sent a message of peace.

In an interview with news Nation, an Indian media outlet, Modi said that his two actions, including the Lahore visit and invitation to Nawaz Sharif to attend his oath-taking ceremony, convinced the world about India’s stand on Pakistan.

Speaking about his strategies for dealing with Pakistan, Modi said, "The world would have not acknowledged India's efforts towards peace if I had not visited Lahore or invited former Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif to my swearing-in ceremony."

He added that his Lahore visit convinced people that Modi wants cordial ties with Pakistan.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had made a surprise visit to Pakistan in December 2015 to attend the wedding of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s grand daughter.

The opposition parties in India had strongly criticised Modi for visiting Pakistan.

The visit was however marred because of an attack on an Indian airbase in Pathankot soon after the visit.
