According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup & Gilani Pakistan, a quarter Pakistanis (26%) claim that government officials take bribes because of greed

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News - 13th May, 2019) According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup & Gilani Pakistan, a quarter Pakistanis (26%) claim that government officials take bribes because of greed. This survey was done to understand the public’s opinion on why government officials take bribes. A nationally representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces was asked, “Why do government officials take bribes?” In response, 26% said that they take bribes because of greed, 21% said because bribes are easily obtained, 14% said because their pay is insufficient, 13% said because they want an extravagant lifestyle, 13% said that they have gotten used to taking bribes, 6% said because people who take bribes are usually not caught, and 2% said that they are forced to take bribes because of the system.

5% said that they did not know or did not wish to respond.
