Sri Lankan Catholic Schools to Reopen May 14 After Closures Following Bombings- Archbishop

Sri Lanka's private Catholic schools, which have been closed since the nationwide deadly Easter Sunday bombings on April 21, will reopen on May 14, Archbishop of Colombo Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith said on Thursday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 09th May, 2019) Sri Lanka's private Catholic schools, which have been closed since the nationwide deadly Easter Sunday bombings on April 21, will reopen on May 14, Archbishop of Colombo Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith said on Thursday.

Sri Lankan Catholic schools extended their closures beyond the initially proposed April 29 date following the government's warnings of possible new attacks throughout the South Asian country.

"The Catholic private schools will be reopened, observing the situation, on Tuesday, [May] 14. We are planning, but we are not sure, because we want to be absolutely sure before we open our schools," Cardinal Ranjith said, as quoted by Sri Lankan Daily Mirror newspaper.

On Tuesday, Sri Lankan police chief Chandana Wickramaratne said that all the suspected organizers of the blasts, which claimed hundreds of lives, had been arrested or eliminated.

Sri Lanka has been on high alert since the string of deadly bombings. The Islamic State terrorist group (banned in Russia) reportedly claimed responsibility for the attacks.
