Yangon Airport Says 20 People Remain in Hospital After Bangladeshi Plane Incident

A total of 20 people remain in hospital with minor injuries following a recent incident involving Bangladeshi Biman Airlines' plane, which skidded off the runway when landing in bad weather at an airport in Myanmar, Yangon International Airport's operator said on Thursday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 09th May, 2019) A total of 20 people remain in hospital with minor injuries following a recent incident involving Bangladeshi Biman Airlines' plane, which skidded off the runway when landing in bad weather at an airport in Myanmar, Yangon International Airport's operator said on Thursday.

On Wednesday, a Bombardier Dash 8 - Q400 aircraft skidded and overran the runway during what the airport says was "its second attempt at landing amidst bad weather and poor visibility conditions." Earlier, Bangladeshi Ambassador to Myanmar Manjurul Karim Khan Chowdhury said that 30 people were injured in the incident.

"All 35 people on board, including one child, were swiftly evacuated and provided with proper treatment and support. As of 9th May 2019, 6:00 pm [11:30 GMT], 15 passengers and 5 crew members have been warded in various hospitals in Yangon for minor injuries," Yangon Aerodrome Company Limited said in a statement.

The company added that the plane's debris had been removed, and the airport's operations returned to normal on Wednesday evening.
