MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 05th May, 2019) Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza said on Sunday that it was necessary to persuade the United States that time had come to resume dialogue amid escalations in the Latin American country, expressing hope that Washington, supportive of Venezuelan opposition, would change its policies.
"It is necessary to convey to the US State Department � during the talks in Finland [between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US State Secretary Mike Pompeo, scheduled for Monday] or, perhaps, through this press conference � the idea that we are at a time when we need to return to dialogue, we need to return to respect for international law and to respect for the principles of bilateral relations," Arreaza said at a press conference following talks with Lavrov in Moscow.
He stressed that dialogue was "the only possible option in the civilized world."
"We are well aware of who advises [US] President [Donald] Trump to go the wrong way. It is important that he understands that he is on the wrong path ... Venezuela is ready for dialogue and is ready to propose its constitutional solutions to resolve the situation ... We hope that the foreign policy of the United States will change course, and this applies not only to Venezuela but also to other countries to which they are committing aggression and attacks. [We hope] that it will act through diplomacy," Arreaza added.
The Venezuelan foreign minister also stressed that the global community must be the "guarantor" of the dialogue between Venezuela and "external agents."
