WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 05th May, 2019) US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told Australian ABC news broadcaster on Sunday that he did not know if a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin could be held.
"I don't know, we'll see," Pompeo said, when asked about the possibility of a Putin-Trump summit.
The two leaders held their first summit in the Finnish capital of Helsinki last July to discuss both bilateral relations and the international agenda. They planned to meet on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in the Argentinian capital of Buenos Aires which was held from November 30-December 1, 2018, but Trump canceled the meeting in the light of the Kerch Strait incident, which happened in October. He stressed that a summit with Putin was possible only after Russia released the Ukrainian sailors who had been detained over violating the Russian maritime border during that incident.
Meanwhile, Putin and Trump had a long phone conversation on Friday, during which they touched upon crafting a new nuclear arms control deal, increasing bilateral trade and denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula and also addressed the conflicts in Venezuela and Ukraine.
