Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated Japan's new Emperor Naruhito on his succession to the throne on Wednesday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 01st May, 2019) Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated Japan's new Emperor Naruhito on his succession to the throne on Wednesday, saying that Moscow and Tokyo are engaged in a constructive political dialogue and interact in solving current problems, according to Putin's statement released by the Kremlin website.

On Tuesday, 85-year-old Emperor Akihito officially abdicated the throne in favor of his 59-year-old son, Naruhito. He has become the first Japanese emperor to voluntarily step down. Prince Naruhito's ascension marks the end of the Heisei era and the beginning of the Reiwa era.

"Relations between our countries have significantly developed recently. Moscow and Tokyo are engaged in a constructive political dialogue and interact in solving current problems of the regional and global agenda," the statement said.

In addition, Putin expressed confidence that the further build-up of Russian-Japanese cooperation in various fields meets the interests of the peoples and stands in line with the strengthening of international stability and security.
