WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 01st May, 2019) US President Donald Trump in a statement on Tuesday called on the Federal Reserve to lower US interest rates by one point.
"Our Federal Reserve has incessantly lifted interest rates, even though inflation is very low, and instituted a very big dose of quantitative tightening," Trump said via Twitter. "We have the potential to go up like a rocket if we did some lowering of rates, like one point, and some quantitative easing."
Trump said the combination of lower US interest rates and the low inflation could reduce the United States' national debt.
The US central bank increased the interest rate four times last year and projected that more hikes were to come in 2019.
On March 20, the Federal Reserve announced that it will maintain the US interest rate at the 2.25-2.5 percent range and indicated that no changes are expected for the rest of the year.
