NUR-SULTAN (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 25th April, 2019) - Composition of the Syrian constitution commission and procedural issues need to be further negotiated, Russian Special Presidential Envoy for Syria Alexander Lavrentyev said Thursday."As for the constitutional committee, we are availing of the opportunity given to us by the presence of UN Special Envoy for Syria [Geir Pedersen] here. We are obviously at the stage of discussions with him. Some important moments, such as the constitutional committee composition and procedural issues need some final agreements," Lavrentyev told reporters regarding results of the first day of Astana-12 talks.
"We are on the right track, and I think that in the nearest future we will be able to give support to the special envoy on forming and launching this constitutional committee, as it was agreed at the trilateral summit of the Russian, Turkish and Iranian presidents. All participants of the Astana format share this view," he stressed.
