Belarus May Suspend Contaminated Russian Oil Transit To Protect Its Interests - Reports

MINSK (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 25th April, 2019) In case of negative developments, Belarus may suspend the transit of contaminated oil from Russia to protect the interests of Minsk and Belarusian partners in Europe, state-owned television channel Belarus 1 reported Wednesday.

"The delay increases the already enormous damage to the petrochemical industry in Belarus, Ukraine and the European Union. In the most negative scenario, our republic will be forced to suspend the transit of contaminated oil for exportation in order to protect our interests and the interests of partners in Europe," the channel's story said.

The problem with the quality of oil coming from Russia to Belarus via the Druzhba pipeline in the south of the republic arose last week. Russian state-owned transport monopoly Transneft recognized the high content of chlorides in it and announced the adoption of measures to resolve the problem as soon as possible.
